Slow YOUR Roll / Walk YOUR Wheels

I developed a comprehensive strategy and visual identity as a response to the City of Vancouver's "Slow Your Roll/Walk Your Wheels" initiative targeting micro-mobility users. The “Walk YOUR Wheels” campaign materials I designed—including stickers, decals, and informational content—emphasized the need for improved infrastructure and motorist education. My strategic approach to messaging and design helped highlight a clear double standard and calls on Vancouver to provide safer transportation choices for Vancouver residents.

    Podcast Feature

I recently had the pleasure of joining the Strong Towns podcast to discuss how our campaign playfully shares the same visuals and messaging as a city campaign, but directed to the drivers of motor vehicles. Our campaign speaks to those who are responsible for virtually all the deaths and permanent injuries caused on our city’s roadways, cars.

There is a stark contrast between the inconvenience of sharing narrow sidewalks with cyclists and the more serious impacts of car-centric infrastructure encroaching on our daily lives. We discussed the importance of addressing root causes rather than just symptoms, particularly the lack of adequate cycling infrastructure that forces people onto narrow sidewalks despite the overindulgence of space dedicated to cars.

Our initiative emphasizes the need for dedicated bike lanes, wider pedestrian spaces, and improved street design. We're pushing for an inclusive approach that prioritizes community engagement and education for all road users. The goal is to create a more harmonious urban environment where everyone can move safely and freely, whether they're walking, cycling, or driving.

Vancouver Advocates Urge for Motorist Safety Education - Strong Towns Vancouver

If you have been walking or cycling in a lively part of the city recently, you may have noticed bright pink messages pasted on the sidewalks by the City of Vancouver. The city’s “Slow Your Roll” campaign aims to educate micromobility users, such as those riding e-scooters and e-bikes, about slow zones and safety for people who walk or roll. It has been implemented using pink stickers placed around the city to remind riders of these areas. As the use of e-scooters and e-bikes grows in Vancouver, these micromobility devices, capable of reaching speeds up to 32 km/h, often face challenges on narrow sidewalks, leading to potential conflicts with people walking in the same space.
